LVCCA FLOOR MIRROR

PORTAL TO TUSCANY

LVCCA, ITALY

Lucca, the Tuscan city with its name having numerous references including "luminous space" is known as the Italian City of Art or Città d'arte. The old town has walls that are still intact encircling it.

The design inspiration for this mirror started as it had to be a full-length mirror, one that could rest on the floor and lean against the wall. We wanted this mirror to be grand and luminous enough to make any room larger. The color of the plaster and the suede we chose for our sample came from the red/orange of the building roofs and the cream/orange of the building walls of the city.

The shape of the mirror frame comes from the idea of the walls surrounding the old town of Lucca—in plan view these walls make up a number of strong edges rather than round turns. Using that plan view of the city walls we knew which shape would feel best for this mirror and feel like a portal to the past and present.
