APOLLO CHAIR
ALL COMFORT LIES IN THE SUN
APOLLONION

We drew inspiration for this chair from the left behind doric columns on the south-east corner of The Temple of Apollo, or Apollonion. Located in Delphi, Greece; this temple was dedicated to the god of the arts, healing, archery, and the sun; also known as deity god: Apollo.
It is believed that at the "vestibule" right before the temple's cella, were inscriptions of the three Delphic maxims: ΓΝΩΘΙ ΣEΑΥΤΟΝ (know thyself), ΜΗΔΕΝ ΑΓΑΝ (nothing in excess), and ΕΓΓΥΑ, ΠΑΡΑ ΔΑΤΗ (surety brings ruin).

We kept these three maxims in mind throughout the design of this chair. We 'know thyself' in that we continue to draw inspiration from ancient histories, like Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. We thrive in minimal designs, thus 'nothing in excess,' and directly designed a chair without arms to keep from overcommitting The Apollo chair's function (surety brings ruin).
